What you'll do at

Position Summary...

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Counsel to oversee data privacy, HIPAA compliance, and state health privacy laws. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in healthcare law, with a focus on data privacy and regulatory compliance. This role will be instrumental in ensuring that our organization adheres to all relevant legal standards and best practices.

What you'll do...

  • Legal Compliance and Advisory:

    • Provide expert advice on matters related to data privacy, HIPAA, and state health privacy laws.

    • Work with compliance to develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.

    • Monitor changes in laws and regulations and update company policies accordingly.

  • Risk Management:

    • Identify and assess risks related to data privacy and health information security.

    • Develop strategies to mitigate identified risks and ensure compliance with legal requirements.

  • Incident Response:

    • Collaborate on the response to data breaches and other incidents involving health information.

    • Coordinate with relevant departments to investigate and resolve incidents promptly.

  • Policy Development:

    • Draft and review company policies related to data privacy and health information security.

    • Ensure that all policies are aligned with current laws and best practices.

  • Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, to ensure compliance and address any concerns.

What you'll bring:

  • Education:

    • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

    • Active membership in good standing with a state bar association.

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in healthcare law, with a focus on data privacy, HIPAA, and state health privacy laws.

    • Proven track record of managing and advising on complex legal and regulatory issues.

  • Skills:

    • Strong understanding of federal and state health privacy laws and regulations.

    • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

    • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.

    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a healthcare organization or with healthcare clients.

  • Familiarity with technology and cybersecurity issues related to health information.
